What is Dollanity?


    According to the unpublished dictionary of Dollworld the term dollanity is defined as:

                    the doll race, dolls and action figures collectively

    In reality dollanity is a term from a book, Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott used to describe a doll named Joanna, belonging to Jo, that Beth saved from the ragbag. It was a play on words associating humans (ity) with dolls (anity).

    Dollanity, to me, is a term encompassing all dollies; porcelain, cloth, plastic, even tiny action figure, lego and fairy garden figures.

    My collection started with a Tammy doll that belonged to my aunt. Then my mother purchased Flower Princess dolls for me. She said no Barbies, she didn't like them. Then one day I saw a Mattel doll from 'Barbie and the Rockers'. She had curly hair and a nice expression (which by the way was Mother's problem with Barbie). My mother liked her and I had my first 'Barbie' doll; others followed but not a Barbie. That's okay, I bought my first one in my early twenties.

    Then I discovered ebay. My collection mushroomed like an atomic cloud. I went hunting different ones. Damaged or not, I purchased (for next to nothing) large groups of castoffs.

    Now I'm stuck. 'The Dollhouse' has been in my head for YEARS! It has now taken over. I see something and in goes the thought 'Gee can I replicate that for the dollhouse?'  URG!

    I'm starting with what I have. Fabric, beads, wooden bits, yarn, collected items and of course dolls.
